Brett M. Van HoesenUniversity of Iowa
Brett M. Van Hoesen received her M.A. in Art History from the University of
Massachusetts, Amherst, and is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Art History at
the University of Iowa. She is a DAAD fellowship recipient and a regular
participant in Professor Susanne von Falkenhausen's Kolloquium at Humboldt
Universität. Her dissertation project deals with visual culture during the
Weimar Republic with respect to the legacy of Germany's colonial history during
the 1920s. Her research areas include avant-garde photomontage, satirical
caricatures and documentary photography from the Weimar era as well as larger
topics involving museum studies and the relationship between cultural policies
and human rights politics.
